Naiomi Metallic has a B.A. (Combined Honours in English and Philosophy) from Dalhousie University (2002), a LL.B. from Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie (2005), and a civil law degree (LL.L.) from the University of Ottawa (2006). Hailing from Quebec's Listuguj Mi'gmaq First Nation, in 2006-2007 she was the first Mi’gmaq person to be a law clerk at the Supreme Court of Canada. She was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 2008.

Naiomi has a significant Aboriginal law practice as well as practices in human and constitutional rights, employment law, and other areas of civil litigation.  She also practices in real estate, offering bilingual services to francophone clients.  She frequently presents on Aboriginal legal issues to a variety of audiences and has published a number of articles in this area.  She regularly guest lectures at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie and teaches a paper course on Aboriginal Peoples.

Naiomi is also actively involved in volunteer activities, including as a member of the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund’s (LEAF) Law Program Committee, the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society's Racial Equity Committee, and as the Vice President Policy of the Liberal Party of Canada’s Aboriginal Peoples’ Commission.  Recently Naiomi has been involved in efforts to establish an urban Aboriginal network in HRM.

Naiomi and her husband, Allan, a professional chef, are the proud parents of three dogs: Zeke, Buddy and Ozzy.
