Kevin is a native
of Riverview, New Brunswick. He attended Mount Allison University
and the University of New Brunswick, graduating from the University
of New Brunswick with a B.A. in 1984 and an LL.B. in 1987.
He articled with what was then Burchell MacAdam and Hayman,
joining the firm as an associate upon his admission to the
Nova Scotia bar in 1988 and becoming a partner in 1995. Kevin is a member of Burchells Litigation Practice Group.
Kevin's practice focuses largely on
defending clients of some of the largest and best known general
liability insurers. Kevin has worked with insurers defending
claims relating to manufacturers and product liability, business
interruption, property damage, occupiers' liability and MVA
claims. Kevin also acts regularly for major chartered
banks, trust companies and private lenders on a variety of
plaintiff litigation regarding secured and unsecured debts
and also has considerable experience assisting individuals
and corporations with disputes relating to estates.
Kevin has appeared
at all levels of court in Nova Scotia as well as the Federal
Court of Canada and Federal Court of Appeal. Kevin has
served as Chair of the Annual meeting for the Nova Scotia
Barristers' Society for the past three years and is a member
of the Nova Scotia Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association
and the Canadian Defence Lawyers Association.
Outside his practice,
Kevin is very active in the community. He has been involved
with Big Brothers & Big Sisters, the Brain Injury Association
of Nova Scotia and is past chairman and continues to serve
on the Board of the Danny Gallivan Cystic Fibrosis Golf Tournament.
Kevin also raises funds annually for the Children of
Chernobyl and Multiple Sclerosis.
Kevin is an avid
runner and has completed marathons in New York and Chicago.
He also enjoys golf, skiing and general fitness training.
He lives in Halifax with his wife, Linda Kirby and
the couple's three children.
