Ann is a former partner from another of Atlantic Canada's best-known law firms who joined the Litigation Practice Group of Burchells in 2002. Ann is a 1990 graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1991.
Prior to attending law school, Ann was employed for several years as a clinical nutritionist at the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children. In addition to her law degree, she holds degrees in Music (McGill University, 1979) and Science (Nutrition) (Mount Saint Vincent University, 1983).
Ann's practice experience includes providing advice and representation to clients on all aspects of employment law and human resource issues. She has routinely provided advice and direction on employment contracts, dismissal planning, employment issues in the context of business restructuring and downsizing, human rights complaints and a broad range of employment related litigation. She also has extensive experience in the negotiation and administration of collective agreements.
Ann's court appearances have included Atlantic Canadian provincial supreme courts and courts of appeal as well as the Nova Scotia and Canada Labour Relations Boards, the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission, the Nova Scotia Labour Standards Tribunal and the Nova Scotia Workers Compensation Board.
In addition to her practice responsibilities, Ann has taught and lectured on civil litigation and employment law issues at both the Dalhousie Law School and the Dalhousie School of Nursing.
Ann's community involvement has included past directorships with the YWCA of Halifax, the Scotia Festival of music and the Nova Scotia Branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses.
